through December 28, 2012

Paula  is a multitalented artist, proficient not only in painting with pastels, but also watercolors. In addition, she is an accomplished photographer, and creates one of a kind art quilts with many different techniques.

Paula Pearl started her career seeing life through a lens.  After graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising Design/Photography, she began a career in photography.  Paula’s background has a strong influence on the lighting and compositions of her paintings.  She takes her camera everywhere she goes and uses her photographs as references in her studio to make nature come alive in her pastels.  She has studied watercolor painting with Bill Senior and pastel painting with Julie Friedman.  She is frequently drawn to scenes that show a quiet place, serene and sometimes ethereal, that comes from her love of nature and her admiration of the beauty all around us.  Paula recently completed a pastel on a violin for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s annual Artstrings Fundraiser, a project she found both challenging and fun.

She has had several solo shows including Alfa Art Gallery, New Brunswick, The Shelter House Museum, Newburg,NY and the Gallery on the Boulevard, Kenilworth Library. In addition, many of her paintings are in private collections.

She has won numerous awards for her work, among them, Tewksbury Historical Society Show, 1st Place Landscape,  MSHAC Overlook Hospital Award of Excellence,  WAA: Jeanette Golda Memorial Award and an Award of Merit .

Paula is a member of the Milburn-Short Hills Art Center, Pastel Society of America, National Association of Women Artists and is the President and Program Coordinator of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Arts Association.

She says of her pastels “I am drawn to moody, stormy skies and water…”

She enjoys the layering of colors that is possible with pastels and feels comfortable with subdued, earthy colors. She maintains a web site: http://www.paulapearlart.com and may be contacted there.
